Dogfish, Flatfish, Ballen Wrasse, Cuckoo Wrasse, Rays, Pollack Pollack – Pollachius pollachius Pollack are a member of the cod family and can be found in British waters. Adults and juveniles differ in colour, with adults being generally dark green along their back with silvery sides and bellies whereas juveniles tend to be more darkly coloured – either green or brown or sometimes beautiful crimson and gold. They are a predator, hunting either alone or in small groups or shoals and eating other fish such as sand eels, herring and whiting. Lesser Spotted Dogfish - Scyliorhinus Canicula These are small sharks found along the Birtish coast. Their skin is covered in tooth-like scales which were once used as sandpaper. They spend the day sat on the bottom of the sea resting and they do their hunting at night. The females lay brown eggs known as "Mermaids purses" and the young hatch out after 6-9 months. |
