Zone 7 Fish found in these waters:
Rays and Plaice.
Plaice – Pleuronectes platessa
Plaice can be easily distinguished from other flatfish by the characteristic orange spots although they can alter their main body colour for camouflage purposes. They mature and so can breed when they are approx 16–43cm long/3-7yrs old (depending on species, gender & location) and are thought to live up to 40yrs. However, due to fishing pressure, most plaice found in the Irish Sea are less than 6years old, which threatens their breeding and populations. ![]() Max size – Approx 90cm but usually only 30 – 40cm
Distribution – Northeast Atlantic. Also the White Sea and Estonia Feeds on – Animals such as cockles, worms, shrimps and brittle stars |
