Become a Volunteer in the Education Department at the London AquariumIf you share a love of the natural world and would like to share your time helping visitors explore the aquarium, a voluntary placement might be for you! Voluntary placements are currently offered by the Education Department.
The Education Department provides information to the visiting public about underwater life and conservation by providing a range of daily talks, feeding displays and tours to groups. The department is also responsible for a successful volunteer programme for enthusiastic individuals with a passion for communicating about science. In this hands-on programme, volunteers are given the opportunity to develop their knowledge and experience with the aquatic world while interacting with the public.
Positions are offered on both weekdays and weekends. Volunteers do not need previous experience of working or volunteering in an aquarium. Volunteers must be 18 years or over. If accepted, volunteers need to commit to a minimum of one-day a week (generally 5.5 hours per day for 12 days) for 3 months. Some reimbursement is offered for travel expenses for the placement.
