London will welcome the Olympic Flame on Sunday 6 April 2008, as part of the global Olympic Torch Relay in the run up to the Beijing Olympic Games.

The torch will travel through ten London boroughs from Wembley to Greenwich, passing around 1.00pm in front of the London Aquarium on board of a boat by the River Thames. Southbank will organise a spectacular welcome of the Olympic Torch with FREE entertainment and events, bringing London's colour and vibrancy to life.

The London County Hall building will be one of the best place where you can watch this event and get the best view of the Olympic Torch from the Cafe on the terrace or Ozu Restaurant Japonais or by the riverside Queen’s walk!

The Olympic flame will be carried through London by 80 torchbearers including double Olympic gold medal winner Dame Kelly Holmes and England cricketer Kevin Pieterson.

On Friday 25 January 2008 the RNLI is holding its annual SOS day, the RNLI’s biggest fundraising day of the year. All monies raised from SOS day will help the RNLI to continue saving lives.

From 15th December to 6th January, Santa will have a few other friends down at the London Aquarium with him too, including Marty and his best friend Sydney the Seagull, who in their interactive puppet show, will meet an array of other characters including Sinbad the Sea Lion, Harriet the Hermit Crab, Miranda the Mermaid and Tallulah the Tuna! Performing 4 times a day, Marty and his friends will teach children all about sea-safety, friendship and how to look after the ocean.

Santa's Grotto

He’ll be in the grotto from 10.00 – 17.00 daily and will have some recognizable friends helping out.

CHRISTMAS CELEBRATIONS CONTINUE AT COUNTY HALL

European Christmas market and entertainment, from 13th - 22nd December 2007

Following the launch of the UK’s largest interactive projection, County Hall is soon to launch the second phase of its Christmas activity, starting with the opening of a European Christmas market on 13th December. With over 20 stalls, the European Christmas market will offer jewellery, decorations, handicrafts and toys, as well as a selection of freshly baked food.

In addition, from on 15th until 22nd December, County Hall will be putting on a range of other exciting activities – all of which are free!

On the terrace above the London Aquarium, you will find professional Dickensian carol singers performing daily at 1, 2, 3 and 4pm, handing out carol sheets for those that want to participate!

The 24th & 25th November 2007

The Historical Diving Society (a registered charity) will be diving in the Atlantic display throughout the weekend of 24th & 25th November 2007 in antique diving equipment. This promises to be a fantastic spectacle and there will also be an exhibition stand on the sub basement where children can try on an old brass helmet or heavy boots. The Historical Diving Society (the HDS) was formed in 1990 in the UK by a group of enthusiasts whose aim is to preserve and protect diving heritage. Since then the Society has grown into an international organisation with affiliated national societies across the world.

The Society encourages the publication of articles of historical diving interest, and produces its own newsletter, the Historical Diving Times , which is available to members. Selected articles appear online www.thehds.com

London Aquarium launches Shark Month - October 2007

Support European Shark Week - "Every fin Counts" Joining forces with the Shark Trust, the London Aquarium will be hosting its first ever Shark Month this October with lots of exciting activities for all the family.

During Shark Month, the London Aquarium will be displaying a truly stunning under water photography exhibition, with pictures compiled by Geert Droppers, a keen diver and shark enthusiast. The evoking photography, taken from all around the globe, explores the beauty of these endangered creatures. This will be located sub level 2 near to the Pacific Tank.

Be part of this action and help us to SAVE the sharks!

How?

- Make a fin and sign an anti shark finning petition
- Visit the exhibition (Sub level 2 - Pacific Tank - Zone 11)
