The Aquarium employs about 40 members of staff across a variety of departments, from ticketing and marketing, to educating visitors, organising corporate events and most important of all, looking after the fish!

Work Experience
The London Aquarium does NOT offer work experience for students under the age of 18.
 
 Aquarist/Diver
 
The London Aquarium seeks to provide all visitors with an unrivalled experience of the exciting and diverse underwater world and to encourage respect for nature through education.  We are located on London’s busy south bank area next to the London Eye and have over 50 exhibits containing 2.5 million litres of water displaying aquatic life from all over the world.  
There is a full time vacancy in the husbandry team for an enthusiastic: Aquarist/Diver
Essential Qualifications and experience
BSc in a Biological subject
PADI dive master or equivalent
The ability to obtain a HSE medical

Desirable qualifications
Practical experience in aquatic animal husbandry

Position summary
Working with and reporting to the Senior Aquarist, you will be a part of the team responsible for the husbandry and care of over 4000 animals to the highest possible standards, following zoo licence guidelines and company protocols and policy. 
You will be responsible for the food preparation and feeding of all displays, the daily operation and maintenance of the life support system and the testing of water quality and result recording. You will also be responsible for the cleanliness of the displays and off show areas and the keeping of accurate records for all husbandry related matters.
You will conduct the medical treatment of animals under the direction of the Curator and/or vet and maintain strict codes of practice for the use, storage and record keeping of all medications and chemicals according to HSE, COSHH and veterinary regulations.
Once on site training is complete you will become part of the 24 hour life support cover team that ensures the correct functioning of the life support system outside of normal working hours.
As a qualified diver you will also join the dive team, which carries out a variety of underwater tasks including the feeding and the maintenance of the larger exhibits such as the Atlantic and Pacific displays with sharks and rays.

 Administrative Assistant

Department:General / Administration
Responsible to: Managing Director
Liaises with:All Departments, Customers, Suppliers, Corporate Clients, Local Authorities, External Agencies
Working Hours:From 9.00am to 5.30pm or as agreed by the manager, and Monday to Friday.
Salary: To be discussed
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Answer enquiries from the general public via telephone, email and post.
Administer personnel files – setting up new files, ensuring all documentation is in order.
Collection and distribution of daily incoming and outgoing post.
Monitoring and upkeep of office stationary.
Raising general office administrative purchase orders as and when required.
General office photocopying, scanning, etc.
Dealing with general written complaints.
Producing temporary signage and posters when required.
Assisting as and when required with typing of minutes, maintaining the filing system, diary management.
Updating records as and when required – staff handbook, expense forms, sickness records, holiday records, etc.
General Requirements:
The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the confidentiality of all personal and business information.
The post holder may be required to attend work outside of normal work hours, by prior agreement.
You will be required to undertake such other duties within the scope of the post as may be requested.

Events Co-ordinator
 
Department: London Aquarium & London County Hall
Responsible to: Events Director
Liaises with: Events manager & team, Marketing Manager & team
Salary: £18k to £21k

Main Duties & Responsibilities

Relationship building with both clients and colleagues
co-ordination of conferences and special events
Proactive and reactive sales,  preparation of bespoke proposals and processing enquiries through to contract
conducting sales showrounds of the facilities
assisting with business development activities, including hosting client events
liaising with clients prior to the event to ensure requirements are captured
ensuring operational consequences are considered, liaising with service departments, third party suppliers as necessary
ensuring the smooth running of events on the day, event manager of all parties
post event follow-up
checking and authorising invoices payable
processing group bookings

 
Experience

skilled co-ordinator of events with venue or agency background is desirable
strong administrative and numerical skills
excellent interpersonal and influencing skills
professional communication skills are essential - both verbal and written
ability to build rapport with and instil confidence in clients, guiding and confident
ability to manage own workload and work on own initiative
team player
hands on approach
keen eye for detail (especially in relation to client requirements, contractual issues and invoicing)

strong PC skills (MS Office applications, email, web, databases, etc)
willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends, on a rota system
